Treatment of Hepatic and Pulmonary Hydatidosis with Mebendazole

چکیده مقاله:

Mebendazole was given to two patients with multiple hydatidosis of the liver and three patients with multiple hydatidosis of the lungs. They could not be treated surgically because of aduanced diseases. So they wer given a daily dose of 25-40 mg/kg body weight for 9-12 months. Definite clinical result in one patient and some clinical improvements in the size of the liver and clearance of the lung from hydatidosis was observed in the rest of the patients.

High mebendazole doses in pulmonary and hepatic hydatid disease.

Thirty nine children with 71 hydatid cysts were given mebendazole orally in a dose of 100-200 mg/kg/day for 12 weeks and were followed up for a mean (SD) of 63 (24) months. Twenty children (three of them after a second course) were cured and another two avoided at least one operation. No serious side effects of the drug were observed.
